CHRIS STAFFORD'S PHOTOGRAPHS

Pictured above and right, two very beautiful shots of the magnificent Crowland Abbey.

Pictured above and a puzzle from Crowland Abbey. The black and white picture on the left was taken in 1986 and shows two clerics, both with heads. The colour photograph on the right, of the same two clerics, shows that a fair bit has happenede to them in the twenty years since. Both are now without heads, and the figure on the right also appears to have lost his right hand in the time between the two photographs being taken. Both photographs courtesy of Chris Stafford.

Pictured above left, an amazing stained glass window from Apethorpe in Northants. Beautiful work, and dated 1621.

Pictured above right, amazing what you can find sometimes in a small village. This came in from Chris Stafford, who found this amazing font cover in Terrington St Clement.

A note from Chris which accompanied the photos read as follows.."Terrington St Clement has one of the most amazing font covers in the country, a huge gothic monster, that was at a later date converted from a lifting style to a front opening style. Originally the covers were created to protect the holy water (so I read somewhere) from thieves. The inside of the cover was painted in the late 17th Century, a fabulous monument"

To put it mildly, the picture below comes from out of the catchment area for this site, but it is a stunning photograph, and I am very pleased to include it here. The photograph comes from Linlithgoe in Scotland and Chris has captured sunlight through stained glass windows perfectly.

Pictured left, an exterior shot of the church of St Mary at Wilby, Northants. Picture taken on a miserable January day when the Sun came out only briefly, fortunately whilst Chris was at this church.

Below, a modern looking, but extremely impressive angel from the tower at Wilby. There is a very small teddy bear in the top right hand corner of this picture, which was tied in to one of the quatrofoils...for what reason, I have no idea!!
