CHRIS STAFFORD'S MISCELLANEOUS PICTURES 2

Went for a bit of a crawl on Friday whilst on a business trip to Ipswich. First stop was at Northwold's St Andrews church, near Mundford in Norfolk. I noticed a fine smiling cow used as a corbel to support the finely painted roof, I thought of your site. A couple of ladies came into the church to do the flowers and one of them said had I seen the stone head over the vestry door, apparently it was the model for the Queen of Hearts in Sir John Tenniel's illustrations for Lewis Carroll's Alice in Wonderland. Well I went round and took the photo and the lady was right, there is more than a passing resemblance. However a study of the excellent guide book revealed no mention of it. However this incidence came straight back to me in a later church, Holy Trinity at Long Melford, when I found myself looking at a Medieval image of the Duchess from Alice in Wonderland in a stained glass window in the church. This time it was mentioned in some of the documentation at the church, I must admit I found it strange that earlier on in the day the other image had been pointed out to me, spooky!!
