THE TOBIAS NORRIS Stamford Bellfoundry
When I was visiting churches in the Peterborough area, and was able to pick up a history leaflet, the same name kept cropping up time and time again. This was the Norris family, who were Bellfounders in Stamford in the 17th and 18th centuries. I thought that I would do some research on this family business and the people who ran it. Part of this research is in compiling a database of all churches that still have bells cast by the Norris family.
The database lists the name of the village and the dedication of the church. The date that the bell was cast is also included, as is the inscription on the bell if I have managed to find it. The database is divided in to Diocese, with the first one being Ely.
This is a fairly time consuming process and will be a work in progress for some time. Please contact me if you have any information on the Stamford Bellfoundry that you think I might find of use. Thank you.
